April 1, 2023 | University of the Cordilleras – In line with the theme “Strengthening Partnerships Towards Achieving Women’s and Gender Equality”, the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing Student Council (UC CON CSC) and the University of the Cordilleras Youth and Adolescents Sexuality and Reproductive Health Hub (UYAHH) organized a significant health awareness campaign for UC employees and students in celebration of National Women’s Month 2023.
The morning session kicked off with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the UC College of Nursing and the Population Commission (POPCOM) CAR, strengthening their partnership to address critical health issues. Following the signing, Ms. Cecile A. Basawil from POPCOM delivered a lecture on gender equality, women’s rights, and addressing inequities in services and programs for women. She emphasized the importance of local partnerships in achieving gender equality and ensuring equal access to health services.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to health awareness, with Dr. Jimmy A. Bilod from Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center providing a comprehensive lecture on HIV transmission, prevention, and maternal and child nursing. His session was followed by free HIV screenings for UC employees and students, offering an opportunity for participants to learn more about HIV and its prevention.
This event highlighted UC-CON and UYAHH’s dedication to empowering the community, fostering gender equality, and promoting awareness and prevention of health issues. It served as a meaningful contribution to the ongoing efforts in achieving women’s and gender equality during National Women’s Month 2023.
