The Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC), under the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), held the second phase of its Basic Research Methods (BRM) Course on June 27-28, 2023, at Hotel Elizabeth in Baguio City. Spearheaded by the CRHRDC Capacity Building Committee (CBC), this training aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of research methodology and ethics, further refining their initial capsule proposals into fully developed research projects.
Among the key speakers was Dr. Judith Odanee G. Magwilang, Dean of the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), who led a session on Research Ethics. Her presentation emphasized the ethical principles guiding responsible research, focusing on upholding integrity, participant protection, and cultural sensitivity—core values crucial to the Cordillera region’s health research framework.
The training, which built upon Phase I held in May, addressed advanced submodules (Submodules 7, 9-12), equipping attendees with comprehensive research skills. UC-CON faculty members in attendance included Gilbert Bernardino, Sonia Olnanigon, Iris Dela Cruz, Daniel John Soque, and Mitzi Sy. Through its CRHRDC membership, UC-CON continues to access essential training resources, supporting faculty members’ growth and the broader health research agenda of the Cordillera region.
