UC College of Nursing Hosts Seminar on Philippine Healthcare System

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) College of Nursing (CON) hosted a seminar titled “Understanding the Philippine Healthcare System” on October 16, 2023, at the UC Theater. The event, held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the country’s healthcare system and address key issues affecting public health today.

The seminar featured Kristine Gale S. Raguindin and Joyner M. Talosig, both from the Department of Health (DOH) – Cordillera Administrative Region. The speakers discussed critical topics, including Universal Health Care (UHC) and the timely issue of HIV prevention, with an emphasis on Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

Raguindin highlighted the significance of reviewing the Field Health Services Information System (FHSIS) technical report from DOH CAR as a valuable resource for understanding the region’s health status. She encouraged attendees to use the empirical evidence found in the report to gain insights into various health conditions affecting the region, underscoring its importance in shaping evidence-based healthcare interventions.

Talosig also addressed the growing concern of HIV in the region, emphasizing the role of PrEP as an effective preventive measure in reducing the transmission of the virus. The seminar served as an informative platform for attendees to engage with current healthcare initiatives and foster a greater understanding of the challenges and progress in the Philippine healthcare system. The event was a successful initiative by the UC College of Nursing, with speakers from the Department of Health contributing to the ongoing dialogue on improving healthcare services and addressing pressing public health issues in the region.
