Saving Lives Through Skills: UC-CON Conducts CPR Training for Barangay Health Workers

Empowering communities through health education and emergency preparedness.

February 16, 2024 | Barangay, Baguio City — The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON)Level 4 students, under the guidance of Clinical Instructor Ferdinand Tercero and RHU Nurse Brelyn Atinyao, conducted a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training session for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), barangay officials, and local residents. This initiative directly addressed the community’s expressed need to strengthen its emergency response capabilities and improve readiness during critical health situations.

The session began with a detailed demonstration of CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants, followed by return demonstrations that allowed participants to practice life-saving procedures under one-on-one supervision. Level 4 nursing students actively guided participants, provided real-time feedback, and ensured the correct application of CPR techniques.

Community members showed high engagement throughout the session, asking questions and eagerly participating in scenario-based exercises that simulated real emergency situations. These activities emphasized the importance of composure, teamwork, and prompt response in saving lives.

This initiative exemplifies UC-CON’s continuing commitment to community engagement, health promotion, and capacity-building. By equipping local residents and front-line workers with essential emergency skills, the College of Nursing fosters a culture of preparedness and empowerment that extends beyond the classroom.
