Strengthening Partnerships for Community Health Development

Representatives from the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) participated in the Kapangan Local Health Board Meeting, held in collaboration with Hon. Mayor Manny E. Fermin, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Mary Joy S. Fermin, and the staff of Kapangan District Hospital. The meeting served as a platform to discuss how UC-CON’s community health initiatives align with local health goals and address pressing public health concerns in the barangays of Pongayan, Central, Labueg, and Beling Belis.
Dr. Sheila Maria Batoon, Level 4 Program Coordinator, along with faculty members Ferdinand C. Tercero and Jessica Bentayen, shared nursing students’ insights from their fieldwork and community health engagements. The discussions focused on enhancing healthcare delivery and identifying collaborative strategies to address the needs of the municipality.
Also present were representatives from Saint Louis University and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), who actively participated in identifying health gaps and proposing solutions. The meeting underscored the importance of intersectoral collaboration between government units, healthcare professionals, and academic institutions in promoting the health and well-being of Kapangan residents.

This initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
