Promoting Community Health and Reducing Health Inequities Through Service and Collaboration
September 27, 2024 – Barangay Kias, Baguio City.
Level 3 students from the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), under the guidance of Clinical Instructor Gomer Ponso, spearheaded “Operation Tulong,” an outreach program conducted in partnership with local government and non-government organizations.
The event provided essential health services to residents of Barangay Kias, including free health assessments, vital signs monitoring, and health education sessions on the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Through these activities, nursing students applied their clinical knowledge while addressing community health needs, demonstrating UC-CON’s deep commitment to service learning and health promotion.
This collaborative initiative not only improved access to healthcare for underserved community members but also emphasized the importance of intersectoral partnerships in advancing public health. By engaging directly with residents, the students exemplified the UC spirit of compassion, competence, and community service.
