November 6, 2024 | University of the Cordilleras – The UC Theater hosted a full-day event organized by the UC College of Nursing, taking place from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event, held under the supervision of Level 4 Program Head Dr. Sheila Maria Batoon, aimed to enhance the clinical knowledge and skills of nursing students, particularly focusing on medication practices and safe injection techniques.
The morning session featured a Lecture-Discussion on Medication Practice in the Clinical Area, conducted by UC-CON Program Chair and Quality Assurance Officer Judith Layao and faculty member Sherlyn Baliwa. The session addressed key topics, including the dos and don’ts of medication preparation, proper documentation, and the essential Rights before drug administration. Special attention was given to medication computation, ensuring nursing students are equipped with the necessary skills to deliver safe and precise care to patients.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to Safe Injection Practices and the significance of Hepatitis B Vaccination, with a Lecture-Discussion led by Michelle M. Sepulchre (Infection Prevention and Control Nurse), Greg D. de Guzman, and Cheng Lee Q. Dagman, all from Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGH-MC). The session provided essential insights into proper injection techniques and emphasized the critical role of Hepatitis B vaccination in maintaining patient safety in clinical settings.
The event was attended by Level 4 UC-CON students, as well as UC-CON faculty members, who actively participated in the discussions and gained valuable knowledge to further improve their clinical and teaching practices. This event reinforced the College’s commitment to providing comprehensive and up-to-date training for nursing students, preparing them for safe and effective practice in the healthcare field.
