UC College of Nursing Conducts Community Health Mission in North Sanitary Camp

Bringing Quality Healthcare and Compassionate Service to the Community

November 23, 2024 – Baguio City. The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), in collaboration with Barangay North Sanitary Camp, successfully conducted a community outreach health mission at the barangay hall. Spearheaded by Barangay First Lady Dr. Norenia T. Dao-ayen, the initiative brought essential healthcare services closer to residents and showcased the power of collaboration in promoting public health and well-being.


Comprehensive Services and UC-CON Faculty Involvement

The health mission featured a wide range of medical services provided by UC-CON faculty and healthcare professionals, including health assessments, medical consultations, laboratory services, pharmacy assistance, and community health education.

Medical Consultations

  • Dr. Marilou Cavinta of the National Commission of Indigenous Peoples – Cordillera (NCIP-CAR) provided specialized medical care for Indigenous populations.
  • Dr. Bong Morales Lagman, a UC-CON alumnus (Batch 2008), offered his expertise in general and family medicine, reflecting the continued dedication of UC-CON graduates to community service.

Community Impact and Partnership

The mission was made possible through the support of Barangay Captain Abraham P. Dao-ayenKagawad for Health Joan DalilisBarangay Nutrition Scholar Hannielynne Bocad, and other barangay officials and volunteers. Residents benefited from free check-ups, medications, blood typing, and laboratory screening, addressing immediate health needs while promoting preventive care.

In his closing message, Barangay Captain Dao-ayen expressed gratitude to UC-CON for their service and dedication:

“This mission not only addressed our community’s health needs but also strengthened the bond between the barangay and UC-CON.”

Under the leadership of Dean Dr. Judith Odanee G. Magwilang, UC-CON continues to embody the spirit of service-learning — transforming nursing education into a force for positive change in the community.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 1.3 – Implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all.
    By offering free consultations and medications, the mission helped alleviate healthcare costs for low-income families and vulnerable groups.
  • SDG 3.8 – Achieve universal health coverage and access to quality essential healthcare services.
    The outreach provided equitable, community-based access to essential medical and preventive services.
  • SDG 17.17 – Encourage and promote effective public, public-private, and civil-society partnerships.
    The collaboration among UC-CON, Barangay North Sanitary Camp, and local organizations exemplified shared commitment to public health and social welfare.
