UC College of Nursing Joins Regionwide Medical Mission in La Trinidad

Empowering Communities Through Accessible and Compassionate Healthcare

November 24, 2024 – La Trinidad, Benguet. Level IV students from the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), guided by Clinical Instructors Ferdinand Tercero and Ayalene Guittap, and accompanied by Level II Coordinator Mrs. Nasper Anod, actively participated in the largest medical mission held in La Trinidad. The event, hosted at the Benguet State University Closed Gym, provided free healthcare services to hundreds of residents, promoting community well-being through collaboration and service.

The Cordillera Association of Nursing Deans (CAND), led by UC-CON Dean Dr. Judith Odanee G. Magwilang, played a vital role in the event’s planning and coordination. Through their leadership, the mission became a strong demonstration of teamwork among educational institutions, government agencies, and private organizations.


Healthcare Services and Student Involvement

The medical mission offered a wide range of free services, including:

  • General medical consultations and pediatric care
  • Distribution of medicines and vitamins
  • Eye check-ups with free reading glasses
  • Bloodletting and dental services

UC-CON students assisted in registrationvital signs takinghealth assessments, and health education sessions, showcasing their skills, professionalism, and compassion for community members.

The initiative also highlighted the integration of theory and practice in nursing education, allowing students to experience first-hand the impact of healthcare delivery and patient interaction beyond the classroom.


Strong Partnerships for Public Service

The medical mission was led by the La Trinidad Valley Eagles Club under the Cordillera Eagles Region I, in partnership with the Municipality of La Trinidad, the Coalition of Health Workers Organizations in the Cordillera, and the Philippine Red Cross La Trinidad Chapter. Generous sponsors including Hedcor Inc.Aboitiz Power, and Congressman Eric Go Yap made the initiative possible through their support.

The UC-CON faculty and students were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their meaningful participation, while Dean Judith Odanee G. Magwilang received special recognition for her leadership and commitment to community collaboration.


Commitment to Community Health and Learning

This large-scale mission underscored the importance of interprofessional collaboration and community engagement in promoting health equity. It reaffirmed UC-CON’s mission to cultivate nursing professionals who are compassionate, service-driven, and responsive to the health needs of society.
