On November 29, 2024, the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) hosted a special lecture in collaboration with Institut Kesehatan Immanuel (Immanuel Institute of Health) from Bandung, Indonesia. This event was held at the Nursing Laboratory (N-LAB), with the lecture focusing on Companionship During the Labor Processin relation to Indonesia’s Health Law No. 17 of 2023.
Lecture on Companionship During Labor Process
The lecture, led by Lidya Natalia, S.Kep., Ners., M.S. and Dr. Wintari Hariningsih, SKp., SH., MH. Kes, explored the importance of companionship during labor as a critical aspect of maternal health and wellbeing. The discussion was framed within the context of Law No. 17 of 2023 in Indonesia, which emphasizes the rights of women during childbirth, including the presence of a support person during the labor process.
The presentation highlighted their research on the role of companionship in the labor room, focusing on how emotional support during labor influences maternal outcomes and the overall birth experience.
The speakers provided an in-depth analysis of the benefits of having a companion during labor, covering psychological, emotional, and physical aspects, and how such practices are recognized and promoted within Indonesian healthcare policies. The session offered valuable cross-cultural perspectives on maternal care practices, allowing UC CON faculty and students to gain insights into the Indonesian approach to labor and delivery support.
Active Participation and Facilitation
The lecture was facilitated by UC CON Dean Judith Odanee G. Magwilang, who played a key role in organizing the event. She was supported by Faculty Member Grace Espino and Maribel Certeza, the Laboratory Technician, ensuring smooth operations throughout the session. The lecture was attended by UC CON Level II students, who actively participated in the discussion, reflecting their engagement and interest in the topic.
