Empowering Future Nurses Toward Professional and Personal Growth
The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) Class of 2025 successfully held its much-anticipated Nursing Leadership and Management Seminar: Promoting Nurses’ Professional and Personal Growth and Development on December 8, 2024, via Zoom.
The webinar, themed “Nurses’ Shared Roles and Responsibilities in Healthcare,” featured an inspiring session with Dr. Jhordin James C. Montegrico, PhD, RN, CMSRN, Assistant Professor and Honors Faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Participants gained invaluable insights into:
- Upholding a positive image of the nursing profession.
- Understanding shared roles and responsibilities in healthcare.
- Recognizing the importance of continuing professional development.
Organized by BSN IV Sections B, C, D, and F, the event brought together nursing students and professionals to explore essential aspects of leadership and management in nursing practice. Attendees received Leadership Certificates and were empowered with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in their professional journeys.
The seminar fostered reflective discussions on the nurse’s evolving role in interdisciplinary healthcare teams and underscored the significance of lifelong learning, integrity, and leadership in promoting quality care.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Alignment
This activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 8.6 – Substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education, or training.
The activity encouraged proactive career growth and continuing professional development among nursing students, promoting employability and sustained engagement in the health sector.
SDG 3.9 – Achieve universal health coverage and access to quality essential healthcare services.
The seminar highlighted the importance of nurses’ shared roles in achieving equitable, quality healthcare through effective leadership and professional collaboration.
SDG 4.4 – Increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship.
By developing leadership and management competencies, the event enhanced participants’ readiness for professional practice and future leadership roles.
