UC College of Nursing Level 4 Students Pay Courtesy Call to Kapangan Mayor’s Office and Rural Health Unit

On January 13, 2025, the University of the Cordilleras (UC) College of Nursing (CON) Level 4 students officially began their community duties in Kapangan, Benguet, by paying a courtesy call to the Mayor’s Office. Representing Mayor Manny B. Fermin was Public Information Officer Mr. Jones L. Aban, who warmly welcomed the students and highlighted the importance of safety during their community engagements. He also emphasized the value of a robust referral system and encouraged the students to contribute fresh ideas while working within the community.

Following the Mayor’s Office visit, the students proceeded to the Rural Health Unit (RHU), where they met with Municipal Health Officer Dr. Mary Joy S. Fermin. Dr. Fermin expressed her appreciation for the students’ presence and their commitment to community service. She provided an overview of the health priorities in Kapangan and discussed how the students’ participation could support the municipality’s ongoing health initiatives.

The courtesy call marks the start of the UC-CON Level 4 students’ community duties in Kapangan for 2025. These duties will involve working closely with local health professionals and the community to address pressing health concerns and implement health education and promotion activities. This initiative is a testament to UC-CON’s dedication to experiential learning and its mission to produce well-rounded nursing professionals who make meaningful contributions to community health.

The students and faculty expressed gratitude to the local government unit and the Rural Health Unit for their warm reception and pledged to work diligently to uphold UC-CON’s commitment to excellence in community service.
