The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) has made a remarkable comeback in Community Health Nursing in Buguias, Benguet. Level 3 nursing students, led by their clinical instructors, embarked on their journey as early as 4:00 AM from the university, traveling to the municipal hall of Buguias in Abatan. Upon arrival, they were greeted by the crisp, cold temperature of Buguias, adding to the unique experience of their community exposure.
They were warmly welcomed by Hon. Ruben L. Tinda-an, Mayor of Buguias, alongside Dr. Hilda G. Kimakim, Municipal Health Officer. Mayor Tinda-an expressed his enthusiasm for fostering a strong partnership between Buguias and UC-CON, highlighting the vital role of nursing students in community health initiatives.

The delegation then proceeded to Loo, Buguias, where they paid a courtesy visit to the Rural Health Unit (RHU). There, they were received by Miss Honey Pearl Calixto, a dedicated nurse at the RHU, who provided an orientation on the health profile and background of Buguias. She was joined by Mr. Mark Paul Bay-an, another RHU nurse and a proud UC-CON alumnus. Dr. Kimakim further enriched the discussion with insights into the local health system and the prevalent health concerns in the municipality.
Following the orientation, the students and their clinical instructors traveled to their assigned barangays—Catlubong, Amlimay, and Sebang—where they conducted courtesy calls at the Barangay Health Stations and local government units. These interactions allowed them to establish rapport with community leaders and healthcare providers before engaging in their Community Immersion activities.

This initiative underscores UC-CON’s commitment to hands-on learning and community engagement, equipping future nurses with the skills and experiences necessary to serve diverse populations. The return to Buguias marks a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between UC-CON and local health sectors, ensuring improved healthcare services for the community.
