UC CON Level 4 Students Conduct Health Education Session on Nutrition for 4Ps Beneficiaries in Barangay Central, Kapangan

On March 12, 2025, Level 4 nursing students from the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) conducted a health education session focused on nutrition for beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Barangay Central, Kapangan. The event, held at the Barangay Hall of Central, aimed to promote awareness of proper nutrition and its impact on overall health and well-being.

Supervised by Clinical Instructor Mrs. Jessica Bentayen, the students delivered informative discussions on balanced diets, essential nutrients, and meal planning tailored to the needs of families under the 4Ps program. The session emphasized the importance of consuming a variety of food groups to ensure adequate nourishment, particularly for children and pregnant women.

In addition to the health education session, the nursing students also conducted vital signs assessment in collaboration with Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) at the Barangay Health Station. This activity enabled the community members to monitor their health status and receive guidance on maintaining optimal wellness. The partnership between UC CON students and BHWs fostered a collaborative approach to community health care, reinforcing the significance of preventive measures and early detection of potential health concerns.

The initiative exemplifies UC CON’s commitment to community engagement and practical learning experiences for its students. Through this hands-on approach, the nursing students were able to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, enhancing their competencies in health education and community service.

The successful implementation of the program highlights the essential role of nursing students in promoting public health, particularly in underserved communities. With continued efforts in health education and outreach programs, UC CON remains dedicated to nurturing future healthcare professionals who are equipped to make a meaningful impact in society.
