UC College of Nursing Student Nurses Support Community Well-Being During UC College of Law’s Free Annual Legal Aid Services

On March 20, 2025, Level 4 and Level 2 student nurses from the University of the Cordilleras (UC) College of Nursing played a vital role in promoting community health by providing essential health services during the UC College of Law’s (COL) Free Annual Legal Aid Services at Malcolm Square, Baguio City. This joint initiative underscored the commitment of UC students to holistic community service, addressing both legal and health concerns of local residents.

Under the supervision of Clinical Instructor Mr. Marvin Permison, the student nurses offered free vital signs taking, including blood pressure monitoring. They also conducted informative health lectures covering a range of important topics, including the significance of regular check-ups, the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and the early detection of common health issues such as hypertension and diabetes.

Beyond these services, the student nurses spearheaded health education campaigns aimed at raising awareness about disease prevention and overall wellness. Through interactive discussions and informative materials, they empowered community members with knowledge to make healthier lifestyle choices.

The collaboration between the UC College of Law and UC College of Nursing highlights the university’s dedication to community engagement and interprofessional service. By integrating healthcare into the legal aid event, the initiative provided a more comprehensive approach to public welfare, ensuring that individuals not only received legal assistance but also gained access to essential health services.

The participation of the Level 4 and Level 2 student nurses in this event exemplifies their commitment to service-oriented learning and their readiness to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Their involvement not only strengthened their clinical and community health competencies but also reinforced UC’s mission to cultivate compassionate and competent healthcare professionals dedicated to the well-being of the communities they serve.
