UC College of Nursing Highlights Cultural Unity and Collaboration at Communidad Day 2

Baguio City, April 22, 2025 — Day 2 of Communidad 2025 commenced with vibrant energy and a deep sense of purpose as the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) celebrated the spirit of partnership with the theme “Igniting Unity, Partnership, and Sustainable Growth.”

The morning program opened with a heartfelt invocation from the UC_CON Chorale, ushering in a reflective atmosphere for the day’s celebration. Dean Dr. Judith Odanee G. Magwilang delivered her opening remarks, emphasizing the value of community engagement in nursing education and welcoming representatives from UC-CON’s dedicated community partners. Delegates from Baguio City, Buguias, La Trinidad, and Kapangan were in full attendance, joining the celebration as active collaborators in the college’s continuing efforts to serve and uplift local communities.

The keynote speaker, Atty. Paolo Raynor E. Salvosa, Strategic Consultant of the University of the Cordilleras, was introduced by Mrs. Judith A. Layao, Program Chair and Quality Assurance Officer. Atty. Salvosa shared powerful reflections drawn from his personal experiences with community immersions and outreach programs. He highlighted how unity, meaningful partnerships, and sustainable growth are essential not only in community development but also in shaping compassionate, socially responsible nurses.

The event also featured inspiring video documentaries created by Level 2, 3, and 4 Nursing students. These visual presentations captured the students’ hands-on experiences in public health initiatives and community work, showcasing their deepening commitment to community-responsive care.

Cultural pride took center stage with traditional dances from Benguet performed with grace and authenticity. Intermission numbers followed, featuring students and faculty from Ifugao, Kalinga, Abra, and Mountain Province, each celebrating their unique cultures while reinforcing the shared identity of the Cordilleras.

The celebration culminated in a grand Community Tayaw—a traditional dance that brought together students, faculty, and community partners in a symbolic act of unity and mutual respect.

The morning’s event stood as a vibrant reflection of UC-CON’s dedication to academic excellence, cultural appreciation, and community partnership. As Communidad 2025 continues, the message remains clear: through unity, collaboration, and sustainable action, lasting change is possible.
