The University of the Cordilleras – College of Nursing (UC-CON) proudly acknowledges Mr. Ferdinand C. Tercero, MAN, RN, for successfully completing the 5th Postgraduate Course on Basic Health Promotion, held from March 25 to 31, 2025, via virtual sessions. The course was organized by the College of Public Health, University of the Philippines Manila, through its Department of Health Promotion and Education, in partnership with SEAMEO TROPMED Philippines.
As a faculty member of UC-CON, Mr. Tercero joined a diverse group of health professionals from across the country in an intensive week-long training designed to strengthen competencies in promoting health and preventing disease through education and community-based strategies. The course focused on the foundational concepts, theories, and approaches in health promotion, with particular emphasis on the PRECEDE-PROCEED framework—a structured model used to assess health needs and develop targeted interventions.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in a blend of lectures, workshops, small group activities, and plan presentations. Topics such as communication in health education, social marketing, community organizing, advocacy, and the evaluation of health programs were explored in depth. The course also fostered collaboration and exchange of best practices among participants from different institutions and backgrounds.
Participation in this program offered several key benefits. It equipped the participants with updated tools and methodologies for designing and implementing evidence-based health promotion plans. It also provided practical experience in applying theoretical models to real-world community health issues. These insights are expected to enhance his teaching of community and public health nursing courses and contribute meaningfully to the College’s outreach and health education initiatives.
UC-CON continues to support the professional development of its faculty as part of its commitment to excellence in nursing education and service. The knowledge and skills gained by Mr. Tercero through this program further strengthen the College’s role in promoting community wellness and preparing future nurses to become effective agents of health promotion.
