UC Nursing Faculty and Students Present Research at Philippine Nursing World Congress 2025 in Davao City

Davao City, Philippines – June 25–27, 2025 — The University of the Cordilleras proudly joined the Philippine Nursing World Congress (PNWC) 2025, held at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City, where faculty and students from the College of Nursing showcased their research alongside professionals and scholars from around the globe.

The prestigious three-day event, themed “Bridging Cultures, Elevating Care: The Global Impact of Filipino Nurses,” brought together nursing educators, practitioners, and researchers for dynamic discussions, cutting-edge presentations, and networking opportunities that highlighted Filipino excellence in global health.

Representing UC, Novy Onongen, a BS Nursing student, presented her paper titled “Licensed Nurses’ Viewpoints on the Emerging Role of Clinical Care Associates in Healthcare Teams.” Fellow nursing student Kyla Rizziely Gonzales presented her study, “Unveiling the Experiences of Healthcare Workers in Managing Communicable and Infectious Diseases in Correctional Facilities.”

From the faculty, Mr. Gilbert D. Bernardino Jr delivered a presentation titled “Political Competency in Nursing: A Concept Analysis,” emphasizing the importance of policy engagement in the nursing profession.

Their participation took center stage during the Research Poster Galleria and Oral Presentation Sessions on Day 1, where students and professionals alike shared original research addressing real-world health challenges. The exhibit fostered a collaborative atmosphere as presenters engaged in vibrant exchanges with attendees, receiving feedback and forging connections. More than just an academic showcase, the platform celebrated nursing as both a scientific and compassionate discipline.

Throughout the congress, participants experienced a rich array of panels and plenaries. Day 1 featured Panel Discussion 1, “Care Culture: Narratives of Filipino Nurses Elevating Standards,” and a compelling plenary by Dr. Rozzano Locsin, who spoke on “Leveraging Technology to Bridge Cultural Gaps in Healthcare.” Sessions delved into the balance between compassion and technology, and the importance of holistic rehabilitation in delivering nursing care.

Day 2 continued with a strong focus on global collaboration and Filipino leadership in healthcare. International experts such as Dr. Jed Montayre, Dr. Pearl Ed Cuevas, and Dr. Johannes Tolentino Hernandez shared insights on international partnerships, research excellence, and the lived experiences of Filipino nurses abroad. The afternoon plenary, “Filipino Nurses: Care Competencies, Challenges, and Their Significant Role in Global Health,” featured speakers from the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, culminating in a powerful keynote by Dr. Violeta Lopez on the future of culturally competent nursing.

The congress concluded on June 27 with a festive closing ceremony, highlighting outstanding research, raffle prizes, and the exciting announcement that PNWC 2027 will be hosted in Iloilo City—a new chapter for nursing collaboration and innovation.

The University of the Cordilleras extends its heartfelt congratulations to its faculty and student researchers for their outstanding participation. Their contributions reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to advancing nursing education and scholarship on a national and global scale.
