UC College of Nursing Holds Two-Day Capacity-Building Workshop on Syllabus Development

July 29–30, 2025 – Nursing Laboratory (NLAB), University of the Cordilleras

The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) conducted a two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled “Capacity-Building Orientation Workshop on the UC Syllabus Development Process” on July 29 and 30, 2025, held at the Nursing Laboratory (NLAB). This initiative aimed to strengthen faculty competency in developing course syllabi aligned with outcomes-based education (OBE) principles and institutional academic standards.

The workshop was facilitated by Engr. Dionisio R. Tandingan Jr. from the UC Institute of Learning and Outcomes-Based Education (ILOBE), with the active participation of UC-CON faculty members and academic leaders. The collaborative nature of the activity emphasized cross-unit cooperation and capacity-building toward curriculum enhancement.

Day 1 – Orientation and Initial Workshop

The first day opened with attendance at 8:00 AM, followed by a prayer at 8:30 AM. An overview of the UC-CON syllabus framework was presented by Ms. Josephine Minger, Level Coordinator, and Ms. Judith Layao, Program Chair and College Quality Assurance Officer. Engr. Tandingan shared insights on the importance of learning outcomes, curriculum coherence, and instructional alignment in ensuring quality education delivery.

At 9:00 AM, participants engaged in a hands-on workshop on syllabus alignment and outcomes-based education, reviewing their current course syllabi and identifying areas for improvement. The morning concluded with the presentation of initial outputs at 11:00 AM, followed by collaborative feedback and discussion.

In the afternoon session (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM), faculty continued refining their draft syllabi, incorporating alignment matrices, outcome statements, and assessment methods consistent with OBE guidelines.

Day 2 – Finalization of Syllabi

The second day, July 30, was devoted to the continuation and completion of syllabus development. Faculty participants worked closely in groups to polish and finalize their outputs. The session allowed for deeper collaboration, internal consultation, and peer support to ensure the outputs met quality assurance benchmarks.

This two-day workshop reflects the UC College of Nursing’s dedication to excellence in instruction and curriculum development. It directly supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by equipping nurse educators with the tools to design student-centered, outcomes-based learning experiences. Additionally, through the active partnership between faculty and institutional academic offices, the activity also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the value of collaboration in achieving educational transformation.
