Baguio City – August 12, 2025 — The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) convened its faculty members for a full-day Faculty Development Program Training and Monthly Meeting held at the UC Auditoriumfrom 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The activity sought to enhance instructional competence, disseminate institutional updates, and strengthen collegial collaboration among nursing educators.
The morning session commenced with attendance checking, followed by the Opening Prayer led by Ms. Daisy Itchock. Ms. Phoebe Toyokan proceeded with the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting. Institutional updates were subsequently delivered by Ms. Judith Layao, Program Chair and Quality Assurance Officer, together with the Level Coordinators: Ms. Sonia Olnanigon (Level I), Mr. Nasper Anod (Level II), Ms. Sheila Maria Batoon (Level III), and Ms. Josephine Minger (Level IV).
The morning’s final address was delivered by Dean Judith Magwilang, who underscored the importance of academic excellence, innovation, and collaborative engagement in nursing education. This was followed by the formal introduction of new faculty members by Ms. Judith Laxas, welcoming them to the UC-CON academic community.
The afternoon session focused on professional development, beginning with the topic “Teaching Strategies” from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., presented by Ms. Judith Layao, RN, MAN. The session explored innovative and student-centered pedagogical approaches aimed at enhancing both classroom and clinical instruction. From 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mr. Ferdinand Tercero, RN, MAN, MNE conducted a Canvas Onboarding workshop, providing faculty members with practical, hands-on guidance in navigating and utilizing the UC Canvas Learning Management System. Faculty participants were encouraged to bring their laptops for active engagement in the training activities.
The Faculty Development Program and Monthly Meeting reaffirmed UC-CON’s steadfast commitment to advancing the professional capabilities of its educators, integrating technology in nursing education, and sustaining a culture of academic excellence for the benefit of its students and the broader healthcare community
