On August 16, 2025, the Palting United Seniors Organization (PUSO) in partnership with Quezon Hill Proper Barangay, led by Punong Barangay Caesar V. Malican and his council, successfully held a Community Medical Mission and Family Wellness Fair at the Quezon Hill Proper covered court.
The activity was a collaborative effort with the Cordilleras Association of Healthcare Professionals Inc. (CAHPI), the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine – Baguio Benguet Chapter, the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians – Baguio Benguet Chapter, and the Philippine Medical Women’s Association – Baguio Benguet Chapter, with the Philippine Red Cross – Baguio City Chapter also providing support.
Representing the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), Level 4 nursing students actively participated as volunteers under the guidance of their clinical instructor, Miss Lily Christy Baludda, RN, MNE. Their involvement highlighted the strong commitment of UC-CON to community service and experiential learning, enabling students to extend quality health care to those most in need.
The medical mission offered a wide range of services, including:
- Medical Consultations with doctors and pediatric neonatologists
- Vital signs assessment (blood pressure check and oximeter reading)
- Laboratory screenings such as fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, anemia, and uric acid levels
- Bone density scanning, nerve testing, and ABI (Ankle Brachial Index) screening
- Blood typing and blood donation drive led by the Philippine Red Cross
- Provision of medicines for adults and seniors and multivitamins for children
- Free eyewear for senior citizens, with optometrist consultation (pending availability)
Through this mission, senior citizens, adults, and children in the community were given access to essential healthcare services, reflecting the power of partnerships in promoting holistic health and wellness.
The active participation of UC-CON nursing students not only contributed to the mission’s success but also allowed them to put into practice the values of compassion, service, and professional excellence instilled in them as future nurses.
This initiative underscores the enduring commitment of the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing to foster community engagement, empower student learning beyond the classroom, and support public health programs that benefit the people of Baguio City.
