Fostering innovation, leadership, and collaboration in scientific advancement.
Alabang, Muntinlupa — Gilbert D. Bernardino Jr. of the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) proudly represented the university at the Future Science Leaders Forum organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) on October 9–10, 2025, held at the Acacia Hotel, Alabang.
The two-day forum convened exceptional young researchers and educators under the age of forty, nominated by their respective institutions for their potential to become the next generation of leaders in science, research, and innovation.
Distinguished academicians of NAST—many of whom have received advanced training abroad and made pioneering contributions to Philippine science—shared invaluable insights on leadership, research culture, and scientific collaboration.
Speakers emphasized that effective leaders “praise in public and correct in private,” that collaboration is essential to meaningful advocacy, and that true leadership requires both boldness and humility. They further stressed that a culture of research must be deliberately built and protected, thriving through shared commitment rather than chance.
Participants were also reminded to guard against “contaminated mindwares,” where personal beliefs override scientific evidence, and to recognize that consensus does not always equate to truth.
The NAST Future Science Leaders Forum continues to serve as a premier platform for emerging Filipino scholars to pursue excellence, uphold integrity in research, and contribute to sustainable national development—values deeply aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through this participation, the University of the Cordilleras reaffirms its dedication to nurturing globally competent professionals, advancing research leadership, and promoting scientific innovation that contributes to inclusive and sustainable progress.
