Baguio City — October 1, 2025.
To promote sexuality and reproductive health education among students—particularly incoming freshmen—the University of the Cordilleras Youth and Adolescent Reproductive Health Hub (UYAHH) set up an engaging and educational booth during the UC Freshies Day Booth Expo held at the UC Gymnasium.
The UYAHH booth drew attention with its interactive and advocacy-driven activities, including free condom distribution with proper-use demonstrations, a Myth-or-Fact quiz game on reproductive health, and a motivational word bank where students could pick up encouraging messages on self-care, body positivity, and responsible decision-making.
Empowering Youth Through Awareness
In partnership with the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) and the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), UYAHH was able to extend its ongoing advocacy of spreading awareness on safe, inclusive, and responsible reproductive health practices. These partner agencies provided educational materials and contraceptive supplies, reinforcing the importance of access to accurate information and youth-friendly services.
“This is very important in combatting rampant teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases—because what if mangyari sa kanila, diba? I think this is very beneficial, not only for freshies like me but for every year level. It’s a fun activity that encourages responsible use, and the motivational messages are meaningful, especially now that it’s Suicide Prevention Month,” shared Jerwin Bantian, a BSIT freshman, reflecting on the booth’s impact.
Collaboration for Advocacy
The initiative was further strengthened by a partnership with the College Student Council of the College of Nursing (CSC-CON), whose student leaders volunteered to assist in the booth’s operations. Their participation amplified UYAHH’s call for holistic well-being and reproductive health awareness within the university community.
As part of this year’s UC Freshies Day, the Booth Expo served as a vibrant culminating event showcasing various student organizations. For UYAHH, however, it became more than a welcome activity—it was a platform for empowerment, equipping new students with the knowledge and confidence to make informed, safe, and healthy choices.
Contributing to the Global Goals
This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – by promoting reproductive health and disease prevention;
- SDG 4: Quality Education – by integrating life skills and health literacy into student activities;
- SDG 5: Gender Equality – by encouraging equitable access to information and services for all genders; and
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – through collaboration between UYAHH, CPD, FPOP, and CSC-CON.
💚 Through initiatives like this, UYAHH continues to champion inclusive education, health promotion, and youth empowerment—one conversation, one choice, and one student at a time.
