The University of the Cordilleras – College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (UC-CONAHS) proudly participated in the 1st Basic Chemotherapy Training Course and Safe Drug Handling Workshop for Pharmacists and Nurses, held on November 26–28, 2025, at Saint Louis University–Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC), Baguio City. The event was organized in collaboration with the Philippine Nurses Association, Inc. and the Philippine Pharmacists Association Baguio-Benguet Chapter, bringing together healthcare professionals from various institutions to strengthen competencies in oncology care, safe drug administration, and interprofessional collaboration.

UC-CONAHS was represented by Mr. Ken Fias-ilon and Mrs. Judith Layao, who completed the intensive three-day program featuring benchmarking tours, oncology unit orientations, hands-on training, and modular sessions facilitated by experts in medical oncology, nursing, and pharmacy. The workshop covered essential topics such as chemotherapy protocols, safe handling and disposal of antineoplastic medications, patient education, risk reduction practices, and evidence-based guidelines for cytotoxic drug administration.

Day 1 focused on benchmarking, hospital system walkthroughs, and oncology unit orientations led by SLU-SHMC clinical specialists. Participants observed chemotherapy workflows, safety procedures, and interdisciplinary practices crucial in the delivery of cancer care.
Day 2 and Day 3 further expanded into modular lectures and practical sessions delivered by oncologists, nurse specialists, and pharmacy experts—highlighting best practices in drug preparation, legal and ethical responsibilities, occupational safety, and emergency management related to chemotherapy-induced complications.

The successful participation of UC-CONAHS faculty in this specialized course underscores the College’s commitment to enhancing nursing competence, promoting patient safety, and equipping educators with advanced knowledge they can cascade to students and clinical partners. Through continuous professional development and engagement in highly technical training programs, UC-CONAHS remains steadfast in producing future nurses who are skilled, compassionate, and aligned with global health care standards.
