UYAHH Marches in Solidarity for National Health Workers’ Day

BAGUIO CITY — In celebration of National Health Workers’ Day (NHWD), the University of the Cordilleras – Youth and Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health Hub (UYAHH), under the UC College of Nursing (UC-CON), joined the city-wide observance held on May 7, 2025, at Igorot Park, in partnership with the CON College Student Council (CON-CSC).

With this year’s theme, “Voice of Health Workers: Forging a Healthier Future Through Advancement of Legislative Rights,” the event served to honor the dedication of Filipino health workers while amplifying the call for legislative reforms that support their rights and well-being.

The activity began with a unity walk from Baguio Post Office Park to Igorot Park, bringing together health workers, allied health students, and concerned citizens to demand justice, equity, and systemic change in the healthcare sector.

Led by the Coalition of Health Workers’ Organizations in the Cordillera, the program featured empowering speeches that highlighted the critical roles of healthcare workers—not only as providers of care but also as advocates navigating the challenges of institutional neglect and underrepresentation.

A central moment of the event was the collective reaffirmation of a Statement of Unity, pledging to uphold a healthcare culture grounded in respect, recognition, and rights-based advocacy.

Now in its 15th year since the enactment of Republic Act No. 10069, or the Health Workers’ Day Act, NHWD stands as a national reminder of both the valor and vulnerability of those who form the foundation of the country’s health system.

The participation of UYAHH in this meaningful event highlights the UC College of Nursing’s commitment to nurturing student leadership, civic engagement, and advocacy. By actively joining public health observances such as NHWD, UYAHH strengthens its role in promoting not only adolescent health education but also broader human rights and health equity. Their presence represents the voice of future nurses who are aware, involved, and ready to champion change in healthcare.
