The Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) celebrated its 55th Founding Anniversary on August 4, 2024, marking over five decades of commitment to community health and empowerment. To honor this milestone, the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON), through its Youth and Adolescents Sexuality and Reproductive Health Hub (UYAHH), joined FPOP Baguio-Benguet in advancing health and wellness initiatives for the community.
As part of FPOP’s mission to promote accessible and sustainable healthcare, a medical mission was held on August 16, 2024, at Malcolm Square, Baguio City, themed “Embracing Change for Sustainability.” The event provided a range of free medical services, including blood pressure monitoring, blood cholesterol testing, blood glucose and uric acid testing, nerve testing, general check-ups, HIV screening and counseling, and the distribution of condoms and contraceptive pills.

UC-CON faculty and students actively participated in delivering these services, reinforcing their dedication to health education and preventive care. The activity showcased how academic institutions and community organizations can work hand in hand to empower individuals through health access and education.
This collaboration not only celebrated FPOP’s 55 years of advocacy but also highlighted the shared goal of promoting reproductive health, gender equality, and sustainable community wellness.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Alignment
This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3.7 – Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services.
The medical mission provided essential reproductive health services and health education to promote well-being for all. - SDG 5.6 – Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.
The initiative advanced gender equality by empowering individuals—especially women and youth—to make informed decisions about their health. - SDG 17.17 – Encourage and promote effective public, public-private, and civil-society partnerships.
The collaboration between UC-CON and FPOP demonstrated the power of partnerships in achieving shared goals for public health and sustainability.
