UC-CON Faculty Join Faculty Development Program on Future-Proofing Graduate Education

The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) faculty participated in the Faculty Development Program: Future-Proofing Graduate Education – A Workshop on Online Distance eLearning, Micro-Credentials, and Global Trends held on September 6, 2025, at the UC Theater. The event ran from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and gathered academic leaders and faculty members from across the university to explore innovative strategies in higher education.

The program opened with a welcome and introductions by Dr. Ariel Nimo B. Pumecha, Vice President for Academic Affairs, followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Nancy M. Flores, University President, who emphasized UC’s commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness.

The highlight of the event was the workshop proper facilitated by Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Chairperson of the Technical Panel for Information Technology of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Director of the Mariano C. Lao Global Studies Center at Silliman University. Dr. Marcial shared his expertise on emerging global trends in education, the role of micro-credentials in professional development, and the transformative potential of online distance eLearning in future-proofing graduate programs.

In attendance were notable UC leaders, including Dr. Ramir S. Austria, Academic Dean of the College of Teacher Education, who delivered the closing remarks. Representing the College of Nursing were Dean Dr. Judith Odanee G. MagwilangMs. Judith A. Layao, Program Chair and Quality Assurance Officer for Nursing, and Ms. Jowelyn B. Raja, BSMLS Program Chair.

The workshop underscored the university’s proactive stance in equipping faculty with the knowledge and tools necessary to adapt to evolving academic landscapes. Through this initiative, UC continues to strengthen its commitment to delivering relevant, future-ready education for its students.
