Strengthening Community and Global Partnerships: UC-CON’s Local, National, and International Engagements in 2024

Highlighting the University of the Cordilleras – College of Nursing’s multi-level collaborations and contributions to health and education in 2024

The University of the Cordilleras – College of Nursing (UC-CON) demonstrated sustained excellence and strategic outreach in 2024 through diverse initiatives implemented across local, national, and international levels. These engagements supported the College’s mandate of fostering community-responsive practice, advancing nursing education, and strengthening global academic linkages in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the local level, UC-CON continued its meaningful collaboration with community partners through university- and community-based health initiatives. These activities enabled nursing students and faculty to address localized health needs through service-learning, health promotion, and community support programs, contributing to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education. Such engagements reinforced UC-CON’s role in driving community development and enhancing the practical competencies of learners within real-world settings.

At the national level, UC-CON actively participated in significant academic and health advocacy initiatives that promoted professional growth, knowledge exchange, and sectoral collaboration across the Philippines. Key engagements included the College’s representation at the 22nd Battle of the Nightingales – NCR Cluster, the successful conduct of a Blood Donation Drive in partnership with the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Blood Bank, and the reproductive health seminar “Empowerment Through Options: A Guide to Contraceptives,” involving nationally recognized health advocacy organizations. These initiatives supported SDG 3 through health promotion and service delivery, SDG 4 through enhanced learning opportunities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened sectoral cooperation.

At the international level, UC-CON expanded its global presence through participation in cross-border academic partnerships and international forums. Notable engagements included collaborative efforts with Taipei Medical University (Taiwan), exploratory partnership discussions with the University of North Carolina–Charlotte (USA) for Project SHIP, representation at the 22nd Asia Workforce Forum in Malaysia, and involvement in the Nursing Education and Practice Research Association (NEPRA) Guild with professional linkages across Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Canada. These initiatives fostered global academic linkages, enhanced cross-cultural collaboration, and supported the College’s objective of producing globally competent graduates, consistent with SDG 4SDG 3, and SDG 17.

Collectively, these local, national, and international engagements exemplify UC-CON’s continuous commitment to advancing nursing education, strengthening community and institutional partnerships, and preparing globally competent, service-driven nursing professionals. Through sustained collaboration, academic participation, and community-centered initiatives, UC-CON continues to contribute to improved health outcomes and elevate the nursing profession across multiple contexts.
