UC’s 100% Smoke-Free Campus Policy and 2024 Enforcement Actions

(SDG 3.3.6 – Smoke-free policy: Smoking-free campus)

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) maintains a 100% smoke-free campus to protect the health of students, employees, and visitors and to uphold a safe learning environment. UC’s smoke- and vape-free stance is publicly articulated in its institutional communications and is implemented in alignment with the Baguio City Smoke-Free Ordinance and national regulations. As part of this policy, smoking and vaping are prohibited on campus premises.

UC’s institutional commitment is evidenced by its 2023 public statement on a smoke- and vape-free campus, which aligns the University’s practice with the City’s smoke-free regulations and advances a healthier campus environment. Continued implementation of this policy was demonstrated during Academic Year 2023–2024, when UC—through Student Affairs Services and the Occupational Safety and Health Office—conducted enforcement activities that culminated in the June 13, 2024 turnover of 282 confiscated e-cigarettes and tobacco products to the Baguio City Public Order and Safety Division. This action affirms active enforcement of the smoke-free campus policy during 2024 and UC’s sustained advocacy for tobacco-free and vape-free learning spaces.
