Enhancing Nursing Education: Highlights from the UC College of Nursing Faculty Development Program and Monthly Meeting

On October 30, 2024, the UC College of Nursing (UC-CON) hosted a full-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) Training and Faculty Monthly Meeting at the NLAB Amphitheater. The event was attended by UC-CON faculty members and provided an enriching blend of professional development, collaborative discussions, and program updates.

Morning Session: Seminar and Workshop on Clinical Supervision

The day began with an engaging FDP Training, which started at 8:00 AM. Faculty members were welcomed by Josephine Minger, the Level 3 Coordinator, followed by the invocation led by Sonia Olnanigon, a faculty member of the college. The National Anthem was also sung to honor the event’s significance.

Judith Layao, the Program Chair and Quality Assurance Officer, introduced the resource speaker, Norenia Dao-ayen, a faculty member from UC-CON, who led the seminar and workshop on “Clinical Supervision”. This segment focused on how to handle students in various real-world scenarios, both in the classroom, hospital, and community settings. The resource speaker shared valuable insights on best practices for clinical supervision, preparing faculty to guide and support nursing students through hands-on learning experiences. Faculty members participated actively in an interactive forumfacilitated by Judith Layao, where they discussed the challenges and opportunities of clinical supervision and shared their experiences.

The morning session concluded with a bladder break followed by a lunch break, giving everyone a chance to reflect on the morning’s valuable learnings and connect with colleagues.

Afternoon Session: Faculty Meeting and Program Updates

After lunch, the faculty gathered for the Faculty Monthly Meeting, which began with an attendance check facilitated by Sir Eros. Milkhay Layco, a faculty member, read the previous minutes of the meeting, ensuring that everyone was updated on the discussions from the last session.

The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to departmental reports from each level’s coordinators. Judith Layao gave an overview of important program updates and concerns, while the Level IV Coordinator, Sheila Maria G. Batoon, shared insights into the current academic progress. Reports from Level II Coordinator, Nasper P. Anod, and Level I Coordinator, Gilbert Bernardino, followed, addressing key concerns within their respective levels.

Josephine G. Minger, the Level III Coordinator, also presented her report, touching on developments and future plans for her students. The meeting concluded with updates and announcements from the CSC advisersSustainability Program Coordinator, and the Intramurals/Green is In/Sportsfest advisers, ensuring faculty members were informed of upcoming events and initiatives.
