February 16, 2024 | Barangay, Baguio City – On February 16, 2024, UC College of Nursing (UC-CON) Level 4 students, under the guidance of Clinical Instructor Ferdinand Tercero and RHU Nurse Brelyn Atinyao, held a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training session for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), barangay officials, and residents of the community. This training was a direct response to the community’s expressed need for improving emergency response capabilities during critical situations.
The session began with a demonstration of CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants. This was followed by return demonstrations, where residents had the opportunity to practice CPR under one-on-one supervision, ensuring proper technique and execution. The Level 4 nursing students played an active role in guiding the participants, offering helpful tips, and assisting with the hands-on practice.
The community members were highly engaged in the training, asking questions and showing great interest in learning these life-saving skills. Scenario-based exercises were also incorporated to allow participants to practice CPR in simulated emergency situations, reinforcing the importance of remaining calm and effective during real-life emergencies.
This initiative highlighted the UC-CON students’ commitment to community service and their role in improving health outcomes by equipping local residents and healthcare providers with essential skills to respond during medical emergencies.
