Celebrating Leadership, Collaboration, and Excellence in Perioperative Nursing
November 30, 2024 – Baguio City. The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) faculty members actively participated in the Perioperative Registered Nurses Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ORNAP) – Baguio-Benguet Chapter 11th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting and 15th Founding Anniversary. The event, held at the Ballroom Hall, 2nd Floor, Paragon Hotel and Suites, Otek Street, carried the theme “Rising Above: Perioperative Nurse as Leader in Healthcare Landscape.”
Highlights of the Event
The convention gathered perioperative nurses, leaders, and healthcare professionals to exchange insights, strengthen collaboration, and promote excellence in perioperative care. The program opened with remarks from Chapter President Rosie Jade G. Cosme, RN, alongside ORNAP National Officers and the Baguio-Benguet Board of Directors.
Keynote Speaker Dr. Ferdinand M. Benbenen, DOH-CAR Director IV, delivered an inspiring address on the evolving leadership roles of perioperative nurses in today’s healthcare system. ORNAP National President Ernesto Tolentino, RN, followed with a message on the value of perioperative nursing in advancing national health priorities.
Learning Sessions and Expert Discussions
The scientific sessions featured renowned speakers who shared insights on professional practice, leadership, and collaboration in perioperative nursing, including:
- Dr. Erlinda Castro-Palaganas, RN, PhD – Showcasing excellence and advancing research in perioperative nursing.
- Hon. Ruth Bawayan – Legal and ethical dimensions of perioperative care.
- Ricarte “Rey” Gapuz, Jr., RN, MAN, and Randy S. Occidental, RN, MAN – Professionalism and inspiring new entrants to the nursing profession.
- Dr. Mirriam Claire O. Dy, RN, MD – Leadership innovation in surgical care.
- Dr. Rony M. Fajillagutan, RN, MAN – Collaboration as a driver of quality and safety in perioperative practice.
Active Engagement and Collaboration
UC CON faculty members Rambo Ebbes, Wilbur Comafay Jr., Joel Dacquigan, Pinky Sao-an, Grace Espino, and Alfrando Caluza actively participated in the workshops and discussions, bringing their insights and experiences to the professional forum. Their engagement reflects UC CON’s dedication to lifelong learning, research-informed practice, and continuous faculty development.
Closing the Event
The day concluded with the announcement of new ORNAP Chapter officers and an inaugural address by the incoming President. Chapter Assistant Secretary Dynah Mae Pedling, RN, extended appreciation to all partners and participants for their contributions to the event’s success.
