Fostering Global Collaboration and Promoting Maternal Health Advocacy
The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) hosted a special international lecture in collaboration with the Institut Kesehatan Immanuel (Immanuel Institute of Health) from Bandung, Indonesia. The event was held at the Nursing Laboratory (N-LAB) and focused on “Companionship During the Labor Process” in relation to Indonesia’s Health Law No. 17 of 2023.
Lecture on Companionship During the Labor Process
The lecture, delivered by Lidya Natalia, S.Kep., Ners., M.S. and Dr. Wintari Hariningsih, SKp., SH., MH. Kes, emphasized the importance of companionship during labor as a crucial component of maternal health and women’s empowerment. Grounded in Indonesia’s Health Law No. 17 of 2023, the discussion underscored the rights of women to have a support companion during childbirth, aligning with global standards of compassionate, respectful, and gender-sensitive maternity care.
The speakers presented evidence from research showing how emotional and physical support during labor improves maternal outcomes, reduces stress, and enhances birth experiences. The session provided cross-cultural insights into Indonesia’s healthcare policies, allowing UC CON students to understand how women’s health rights are protected and promoted in other countries.
Active Participation and Facilitation
The lecture was facilitated by UC CON Dean Dr. Judith Odanee G. Magwilang, supported by Faculty Member Grace Espino and Laboratory Technician Maribel Certeza. Level II nursing students attended the session, actively engaging in discussions and gaining new perspectives on maternal care practices across cultures.

This lecture marked an important milestone in strengthening the partnership between UC CON and Institut Kesehatan Immanuel, enhancing academic exchange and cultural understanding. The collaboration enriched nursing education at UC CON by integrating global perspectives on maternal health, gender equality, and ethical nursing practice.
