Fostering Compassionate Care and Community Partnership through Service
December 5, 2024 – Mines View Barangay, Baguio City. The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC CON) actively participated in the 16th Paltiing United Seniors Organization (PUSO) Community Medical Mission, held in partnership with Mines View Barangay. The initiative underscored UC CON’s continued commitment to meeting community health needs while providing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for its nursing students.
The mission was made possible through collaboration among various organizations and professionals, including the Cordilleras Healthcare Association (CAHPI), the Philippine College of Occupational Medicine Baguio–Benguet Chapter, and the Philippine Medical Women’s Association Baguio–Benguet. Esteemed practitioners such as Dr. Leio Calimlim, Dra. Ma. Reylita Cubillas-Calimlim, Dr. Benjie Yee Tade, and Dra. Cassandra Gresh lent their expertise, while Atty. Paolo Raynor Salvosa, along with numerous volunteers and donors, offered vital support.
Under the supervision of Clinical Instructor Gomer Ponso, UC CON students assisted physicians during consultations, obtained vital signs, and supported health assessments and laboratory procedures. Their active participation demonstrated the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical community service.
The mission served 89 patients, including 57 seniors and 32 adults. Services rendered included 89 blood-pressure and oximeter readings, 83 laboratory tests, and 79 bone-density scans. In addition, 35 individuals received free eyewear, addressing basic visual-health needs within the community.
UC CON faculty and students extend their heartfelt gratitude to all partners, donors, and volunteers whose collective effort made the event a success. The activity reinforces UC CON’s dedication to public service, collaboration, and the holistic education of future nurses.
