Fostering Research Excellence and Academic Rigor Among Future Nurses
November–December 21, 2024 – University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City. The University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing (UC-CON) is set to hold the Research Proposal Defense for its Level 3 nursing students, marking a significant academic milestone in their research journey.
This event provides students the opportunity to present and defend their research proposals before a panel of faculty members and researchers, showcasing their understanding of the research process, methodology, and ethical standards in nursing inquiry.
Developing Research Competence and Critical Thinking
The proposal defense enables students to articulate their research objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes, allowing them to demonstrate their ability to design studies that address relevant health issues and nursing concerns.
Through this process, students refine their research questions, strengthen their methodological frameworks, and integrate constructive feedback from faculty experts and peers. This formative step ensures that their research is both academically sound and aligned with the evolving needs of healthcare practice.
Guidance and Academic Support
The UC-CON Research Coordinator, Mr. Gilbert Bernardino, will oversee the schedule and conduct of the proposal defense. Students are encouraged to consult their instructors or the Research Office for details regarding requirements, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
UC-CON emphasizes diligent preparation, professionalism, and integrity throughout the process—values that underpin its commitment to developing competent, evidence-driven, and ethical nursing researchers.
Commitment to Research Excellence
By successfully defending their research proposals, Level 3 students demonstrate not only their academic readiness but also their potential to contribute meaningful findings to the field of nursing.
This initiative reflects UC-CON’s continuous efforts to foster a culture of research, innovation, and lifelong learning, preparing students to become critical thinkers and contributors to the advancement of healthcare.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Alignment
This academic activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 9.5 – Enhance scientific research and upgrade the technological capabilities of sectors.
By promoting research competence, UC-CON contributes to innovation and the generation of evidence-based knowledge in healthcare.
SDG 4.7 – Ensure learners acquire knowledge and skills to promote sustainable development and lifelong learning.
The proposal defense strengthens research literacy, analytical skills, and academic excellence among nursing students.
