UCian Career Fair Series 2024: Empowering Future Nurses for Global Opportunities

Bridging Academia and Professional Practice through Career Readiness and Partnerships

The UCian Career Fair Series 2024, held on December 6–7, 2024, at the UC Theater, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City, was a resounding success, bringing together graduating nursing students, alumni, and industry experts to explore career opportunities and advancements in nursing.

Themed “BEYOND GRADUATION,” the two-day event provided invaluable insights and resources that empowered participants to navigate the transition from academia to professional practice with confidence and competence.

Day 1: Expanding Horizons

Friday, December 6, 2024

The event opened with an inspiring morning session led by Jobs180 Talk, which provided graduating student nurses with expert guidance to enhance their skills, build confidence, and prepare for impactful careers in healthcare. Following this was a session by IDP Education Limited, focusing on international education pathways for nursing professionals. Attendees were introduced to the Study Abroad Program, which emphasized the importance of cultural understanding and language proficiency in achieving global aspirations. Representatives also offered expert advice on IELTS preparation and requirements, equipping students with the tools to pursue nursing careers abroad.

The afternoon session turned to domestic opportunities, as industry experts discussed employment pathways in hospitals and medical centers, highlighting essential qualifications and competencies for success in local healthcare institutions. Students were encouraged to align their career goals with the evolving demands of the nursing profession.

Day 2: Practical Career Preparation

Saturday, December 7, 2024

The second day featured hands-on career coaching and labor education sessions designed to equip participants with practical career-readiness skills.

Employment Coaching by PESO–Baguio.
Ms. Escaño from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) provided career coaching sessions focusing on job application techniques, resume refinement, and interview preparation. Her talk emphasized confidence, professionalism, and self-presentation—key elements in successful employment.

Labor Education by DOLE–CAR.
Atty. Wooden from the Department of Labor and Employment–Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE–CAR)delivered an engaging lecture on labor laws, employee rights, and workplace ethics. The session aimed to empower nursing graduates with awareness of their rights and responsibilities as they enter the professional world.

Empowering Nurses, Shaping Futures

The UCian Career Fair Series 2024 underscored the importance of informed career planning, lifelong learning, and professional development among nursing graduates. Through collaboration with IDP Education LimitedPESO–Baguio, and DOLE–CAR, the University of the Cordilleras reaffirmed its commitment to producing globally competitive and socially responsible nursing professionals.

As the event concluded, participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with experts, gain real-world insights, and build valuable professional connections—marking another milestone in UC CON’s mission to prepare competent and compassionate nurses for both local and global service.

This activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

SDG 17.17 – Encourage and promote effective public, public–private, and civil society partnerships.
